Purpose of Documentation

This site is designed to be a resource for both users and developers of Ark. As such, both simple explanations on how to use the system and more indepth explanations on how Ark achieves its objectives will be given.

SFC Northwest seeks to use Ark as another means of helping each conference further the Glory of God by helping each region such that administrative tasks do not have to take so much of the conference planning process.

Background

Ark initially started as SFC Northwest's Registration and Check In System (NRCIS) for its 2021 Summer Regional Conference. In 2022 the registration and check in system was improved and rebranded as "Pacifica" getting its name from the Pacific Ocean which borders the Washington and Oregon coasts.

In 2023, SFC America held its long awaited National Conference bringing together all seven regions of SFC in America at Point Loma Nazerene University in San Diego, CA. The administrative process for handling registration and check in for participants during the 2023 National Conference exposed a need for a unified system for registration management in order to more efficiently use the limited human and material resources available to our student movement.

Additionally, SFC Northwest is led by college-aged Student Representatives who serve two year terms. As Student Representatives come and go, they've created a patchwork of accounts and documentation that needed to be better served by a single source of resources.

Thus, in October of 2023 SFC Northwest took the step of once again improving Pacifica and rebranding it into Ark (Sometimes known as SFC Ark) so that it can be used by SFC regions nationwide.

Name

Ark comes from Archive --> Arkive --> Ark

This name is an hommage to the fact that Ark should serve as an archive to SFC resources both past and present.

During development, SFC Ark was named "Project Arrowhead" in honor of Arrowhead Springs, CA where the first SFC America National Conference took place in 1998.

In its internal code, you may see "Pacifica", "Project Arrowhead", and "Ark" all depending on the time when the code was written. The official brand is Ark or SFC Ark when clarification is needed.

Development Timeline

  • 2021 - SFC Northwest Registration & Check In System (NRCIS) created
  • 2022 - NRCIS upgraded to Pacifica
  • 2022 August - Pacifica successfully tested at the 2022 SFC Northwest Summer Regional Conference.
  • 2023 October - Upgrades to Pacifica started
  • 2024 January - Renamed Project Arrowhead as a development codename while a new "nationwide" name was being designed.
  • 2024 April - Beta testing of the authentication system completed.
  • 2024 May - Project Arrowhead renamed Ark.
  • 2024 June - Phase 1 beta testing completed. Phase 2 development started.
  • 2024 July - Currently in development.
